Source: press release BMW Motorrad USA | BMW Motorrad reveals the new 2024 BMW CE 02, an electric vehicle designed to attract younger audiences. It’s neither a motorbike nor a scooter, but rather, an eParkourer specifically made for urban areas. The design has been stripped down to its essentials while still staying tough and practical. Bigger wheels make it perfect for riding on various terrains and provide more stability as well. This model will arrive in the U.S. with a retail price of $7,599 plus Destination.

“With the CE 02, we are striving for something new at BMW Motorrad and want to be pioneers once again. Thanks to its unusual proportions and striking graphics, the new CE 02 is an uncomplicated, youthful form of single-track mobility. The reduced design language stands for lightness and fun. The focus is not on utility, but on emotional appeal, riding pleasure and uncomplicated, almost intuitive use,” explains Edgar Heinrich, Head of BMW Motorrad Design.

The disc wheels are made to highlight the silhouettes. The frame, wheels, front fender, and triple clamp fairing are all black, setting off the granite grey metallic matt of the motor cover. With so much open space, customizing options abound; almost anything is possible to make this BMW CE 02 a reflection of its owner’s unique style. The possibilities are endless when it comes to expressing yourself through your BMW CE 02.

The optional HIGHLINE package adds forks, anodized in gold and a tape design in combination with Petrol as a contrasting color make the CE 02 look dynamic and future-oriented even when standing still.

Power

The BMW CE 02 is equipped with an air-cooled, current excited synchronous motor. Two air-cooled lithium-ion batteries provide the power, with an operating voltage of 48 V and each having an energy content of 1.96 kWh that can be taken out for maintenance. It has a total output of 15 hp and 40.6 lb-ft, allowing it to zip away from stoplights with ease. With a maximum speed of 59 mph (95 km/h) and WMTC stats showing a range over 56 miles (90 km), extended rides are possible. Thanks to its light weight of 291 lbs (132 kg) and low seat height of 29.5 inches (75 cm), the CE 02 offers excellent handling as well.

On the right side of the vehicle, a synchronous motor is connected to a toothed belt which transmits the torque to an intermediary shaft. Then, another similar belt located on the other side of the car takes over that duty and transfers the power to the rear wheel. This clever system ensures optimal balance for secure handling. ASC (Automatic Stability Control) makes sure that a safe volume of energy is shared between the wheel and any uneven surfaces while RSC (Recuperation Stability Control) dimishes the drag torque in reverse mode to maintain stability and enhance recuperation at the same time. A reversing aid completes this assembly by improving maneuverability.

Ride Modes

The CE 02 comes equipped with two basic driving settings: “Flow” and “Surf”. With the “Flow” mode engaged, you’ll get a softer throttle response and a moderate amount of energy recuperation for cruising through busy city streets. If you choose the “Surf” setting, you can enjoy a direct throttle response that allows for dynamic acceleration while coasting with no recuperation. There’s also an additional “Flash” mode available as part of the HIGHLINE package that offers a thrilling ride experience. The new BMW Motorrad eParkourer is sure to provide you with a responsive, sporty, and dynamic journey when this driving mode is enabled.

External Charger

The new BMW CE 02 comes standard with a 0.9 kW external charger, which enables charging to be carried out quickly and conveniently using standard household outlets. A quicker 1.5 kW charger is available as part of the optional HIGHLINE package.

Chassis

The new BMW CE 02 is lightweight, weighing only 291 pounds (132 kg), and it is designed with a low seat height of just 29.5 inches (75 cm) to make the bike agile and easy to handle. Its strength comes from a tubular steel frame that’s doubled up for extra-stiffness. At the front wheel, there are hydraulic dampers and 37mm telescopic forks, while the rear wheel uses a single-sided aluminum swingarm plus shock absorber with adjustable spring base.

The 2.50 x 14 inch front wheel and 3.50 x 14 inch rear wheel are both cast light alloy wheels fitted with wide 120/80-14 and 150/70-14 tires. For braking, disc brakes on both wheels come paired with BMW Motorrad ABS at the front wheel. The hand levers can be adjusted to fit your personal preferences, and the dual footrests allow you to choose between relaxed rider footrests or sporty-dynamic passenger footrests.

TFT Screen

The cockpit includes a clear TFT display divulging information like speed, battery status and more. With the USB-C socket, you can power your smartphone. You can utilize the BMW Motorrad Connected app to check when the charging period ends on your phone via Bluetooth link, just as with the BMW CE 04.

If furnished with the HIGHLINE package, with the ‘cradle mode’ activated, it is possible to use the handlebar keypad to control the BMW Motorrad app on your smartphone (held in a smartphone holder). The HIGHLINE package also incorporates BMW Motorrad Connected Services which enable you to constantly see through the app how much charge your CE 02 has and other related data. Moreover, if installed with the optional HIGHLINE package, there is a direct connection between the CE 02 and a backend (currently accessible in Europe, USA, and Canada) which allows updates on your smartphone. With its free BMW Motorrad Connected app, you get further functions such as ride recording which can be shared with friends.
