Source: press release Colibri | Petre Georgescu, founder and designer of Hummingbird, the lightest folding bike in the world, has come up with a new innovative solution for urban travel – the Colibri electric moped.
The Colibri brand intends to provide people with a better alternative to uncomfortable and polluting forms of transportation. The foldable electric moped is highly customizable, complete with a variety of accessories to fit different needs. It was entirely conceived by the Romanian entrepreneur and will be built out of his workshop 50 km away from Bucharest.
“I move a lot, and the daily hours spent in traffic seem like a tragedy to me, especially since the distances traveled daily in big cities are increasing. For example, the average commute in London is 32 km a day, takes 85 minutes and it costs €5,722 per year,” explains Petre Georgescu. “With Colibri, the cost of one commute could be as much as a cup of coffee per month.”
Motivated to bring about revolutionary changes to urban transportation, Petre Georgescu has now unveiled the Colibri M22 foldable electric moped, designed to fit into European balconies and elevators.
Weighing in at 30 kg without batteries, it has a longer range than other electric motorcycles, able to travel up to 200 km on just one full charge. The three modular batteries contained beneath the cover can also be separated and charged independently of one another. For instance, if someone finds themselves with a low battery at work but no available charging stations nearby, they can easily lift out one or more of the batteries to charge while they go about their day.
The M22 was created with the urban rider in mind; it can be driven legally with a category B license and has a maximum speed of 50 km/h. As well as this, it includes an off-road mode which is perfect for those who love taking trails through forests and mountains; this setting has a top speed of 90 kph and should only be used when off-road.
