In December of 2023, it was announced that RGNT Motorcycles had gone bankrupt. Despite their attempts to secure funding, the company was unable to acquire enough resources to continue operating in the near future. Due to a significant lack of cash flow, the board made the decision to declare bankruptcy on behalf of RGNT Electric AB.
New solution for RGNT Motorcycles
Earlier this month, THE PACK had a conversation with Jonathan Åström, who expressed his desire to regain control of the company he founded in 2019. Today, we received news that Jonathan has successfully taken back control of RGNT Motorcycles.
After an absence of more than eighteen months, founder Jonathan Åström has regained control of RGNT Motorcycles, the EV motorbike company he established in 2019. Along with Gideon Schipaanboord, who heads marketing and sales, and Alexander Lewandowski, the CTO and Head of Design, they formed a new company called RGNT Reborn. This company acquired the intellectual property, tooling, and remaining bikes and parts. The trio is now leading the relaunch of the company in a streamlined format, with only a small core team at the forefront.
New management
The new management team’s main objectives for the upcoming period are centered on two key elements: selling the current inventory and launching the third-generation RGNT models in Q3 of this year. Åström says: “With this new structure, we are better equipped than ever to secure the company’s future. We will try to keep our pan-European dealer and service network fully intact and will be further expanded in the coming period. This way, existing riders can continue to count on the service and support they expect from RGNT, while we welcome new riders to our brand in the meantime.”
Shared R&D
Under the new company structure, the R&D team is now shared with another entity. This allows for greater flexibility and a more cost-effective approach. No longer must the company constantly seek investment rounds, as in the past. This enables the company to cover its daily operational expenses, making it stronger and better able to adapt to shifting market conditions. Åström says: “With this move and restructuring, we have prepared RGNT for an even more successful future. And Gideon, Alexander, and I can’t wait to make that future a reality!”
