Back in January 2021, THE PACK first reported on NAON’s prototype ZERO-ONE. Now we have received an update from this Berlin-based company, with the release of renderings of their new serial prototype LUCY.
The design has been refined through a partnership with Faissner Petermeier Fahrzeugtechnik AG to turn their vision of Prototype 01 into a fully functional scooter meant for mass production. With the help of several European manufacturers of the highest quality, NAON not only achieved an exceptional chassis geometry but also custom drive train that offers a great driving experience while still being energy-efficient.
This scooter is equipped with two rechargeable battery packs beneath the floorboards. Either they can be recharged in place, or removed and charged elsewhere with the included charging unit. The position of the batteries not only frees up space under the seat for helmets and other items, but also gives the scooter a low center of gravity. The suspension mechanics paired with a solid electric hub motor and low centre of gravity produce an impressive and rewarding driving experience.
NAON is proudly handcrafted in Germany and procures all components in the EU.
DESIGN
NAON: “When designing our products, we have one goal in mind: to create a timeless, avant-garde form language. We focus on making shapes and designs that are uncomplicated but meaningful. This minimalistic approach helps us lean more towards classic architectural forms than to overstyled trend pieces. At all times, we keep the teachings of Dieter Rams’ 10 commandments for good design in the back of our minds.
Our aim is to develop products that excel in performance and visuals. We bring experience from the automotive design industry with us and use it to perfect the styling of the scooter. We take inspiration from the Bauhaus philosophy that form follows function. Thus, the structural components of the scooter become part of its aesthetic look. Keeping this in mind during the development process allows us to refine every detail carefully. Assembling is also made easier thanks to minimized component numbers and standard hardware parts, which keeps maintenance time and cost low.”
