In December 2019, THE PACK already wrote about the Mantis, developed by Orxa Energies. Today, the team has launched the latest update which can be ordered now at their website.
Source: press release Orxa Energies | Orxa Energies, an EV and energy systems company, has launched the Mantis, their highly anticipated electric motorcycle. It is the lightest in its segment, weighing in at 182kg, and comes in Urban Black and Jungle Grey colours.
The Mantis is capable of reaching a top speed of 135 km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, although the acceleration from 0 to 20 km/h has been reduced to 2.7 seconds for drivability in city areas. With its 8.9 kWh battery pack, the motorcycle has an estimated range of 221 km. The features and technology used on this bike were developed by Orxa Energies, who have experience working with defence and aerospace industries.
On the occasion, Dr. Prajwal Sabnis, Co-Founder of Orxa Energies, said, “Our journey began in 2015, and we translated our vision into the first prototype of what would ultimately become the Mantis. Over the last eight years, we have worked extensively to fine-tune the design and engineering of the bike, all of which was tested and subsequently validated by riding it for thousands of kilometres on highways, city roads and gravel tracks across the country.”
Orxa Energies has recently formed crucial alliances with Spare It, Bolt, and Nunam to reinforce the EV ecosystem and offer inclusive benefits to customers. Orxa customers can benefit from a 40% cost advantage through Nunam’s buyback services for end-of-life batteries. In addition, Spare It is now Orxa’s official service partner, owing to its vast presence. Furthermore, Mantis owners will have access to Bolt’s ever-increasing network of quick charging stations, resulting in seamless charging experiences.
“As avid EV enthusiasts and Bikers ourselves, we’re committed to fostering an ecosystem that empowers both our partners and our customers. With the Mantis, we aim to empower the broader EV community by providing access to essential resources that will drive the ecosystem’s growth and success. Throughout our development journey, we have prioritised the needs and desires of EV users and bikers, ensuring that the Mantis embodies their aspirations. Every step we take is driven by our unwavering vision to create the bike that bikers truly want to ride. The Mantis is truly built by bikers, for bikers,” added Ranjita Ravi, Co-Founder at Orxa Energies.
Drawing parallels between electric motorbikes and ambush predators for their stealthy and swift characteristics, Orxa Energies presented the Mantis concept in 2016. This first prototype – dubbed the Trike – had a metal tubular skeleton with a fixed battery pack. Two years later, they added honeycomb composite materials to lighten the bike’s load and shared it with the public at IBW 2019. During the pandemic, they devoted their time to enlarging the bike’s weight-reduction, which led to a decrease of over 25 kgs.
The new model features a lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum frame, unprecedented for India, along with an advanced battery monitoring system and dual thermal protection. The exterior is covered in IP67 certified casing and the digital 5” TFT dashboard looks top of the line. All this comes paired with a generous 180 mm ground clearance, one of the highest in its class.
