Source: press release FIM E-Xplorer | In collaboration with Formula E, the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup participated in numerous demonstrations at the Italian E-Prix last weekend. Hosted at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, a circuit synonymous with motorcycle racing, it was the perfect location to display the cutting-edge international all-terrain electric motorcycle series to an adoring crowd.
Alejandro Agag, Formula E Founder and Chairman, said: “It was fantastic to collaborate with FIM E-Xplorer World Cup at Misano. Watching an E-Xplorer bike fly over the Formula E car was one of the most memorable moments of the weekend. The E-Xplorer series is going from strength to strength, I can’t wait to see what lies ahead in the future.”
The main demonstration saw INDE Racing’s Spenser Wilton soar over a Formula E car along Misano’s pit straight. Alongside this, Wilton utilised more of his skill to ride his Stark up the stairs of the Emotion Club to the surprise of guests enjoying the hospitality package.
As a show of faith in Wilton’s ability, Agag also trusted the Canadian rider with a jump over the Formula E Founder, resulting in a breath-taking shot.
Valentin Guyonnet, FIM E-Xplorer World Cup Co-Founder and CEO, stated: “I am very proud of what we achieved at the Italian E-Prix. The demonstrations showed to a younger audience that electric motorcycles are readily available to the public, just like electric cars.”
“E-Xplorer offers the premier research and development platform for OEMs to develop EV technology within the motorcycle industry, but also offers a great show for fans, so teaming up with Formula E is the perfect fit.”
Carina Munte, FIM E-Xplorer World Cup Co-Founder and CCO, added: “It was great to present E-Xplorer at the Formula E Italian E-Prix. The reception we received from the Formula E crowd was brilliant and showed the great correlations between the two series and its fans. Spenser Wilton truly showed off the capabilities of E-Xplorer machinery and brought an exciting addition to the Formula E timetable.”
Both the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup and Formula E highlight how the electrification of motorsport can produce a lively racing spectacle for a global audience. Retaining exciting racing whilst simultaneously promoting a more sustainable future meant the crossover in Misano was the perfect match.
Six-time Women’s Motocross World Champion, Kiara Fontanesi, was also at the event. Fontanesi was elected to talk about her experiences in the motorcycle world in front of 100 girls selected to attend the event with the Girls on Track programme to give an insight into what it takes to get to the top.
Attention now turns to Round 2 of the championship, 3-4 May, when the teams head to Norway. Looking to extend their championship lead, Team HRC, hit the ground running at their home event in Osaka, Japan where Tosha Schareina and Francesca Nocera pipped Robbie Maddison Racing to top honours by just a single point. Rounding off the podium came INDE Racing, where Misano’s star Spenser Wilton is paired with Sandra Gomez.
