The idea for Motowatt, a family collab, originated in 2020 when the 2 brothers Henri and Olivier Rabatel came together with a shared goal of reimagining urban transportation. In 2024, they reached a pivotal moment in their journey with the launch of the new electric motorcycle W1X available for pre-order. This innovative vehicle is designed to make daily urban travel safe and efficient for both men and women, whether they are experienced motorcyclists or novices. Henri Rabatel, President of Motowatt, explains that beyond technical advancements, the W1X stands out for its user-friendly handling and driving experience.

This launch is the culmination of 4 years of research and development to create a carbon-neutral two-wheeled vehicle that offers an unparalleled driving experience in urban settings. It was a challenge for our passionate team at Motowatt, but one that was essential for us to achieve. Our unique modular traction system, designed with 2 Motowatt motors, has allowed us to reach this achievement by combining performance and carbon neutrality. We are proud to have secured 4 patents for our developments so far, and more innovative ideas are currently in the process of being patented.

W1X

The W1X was designed with the goal of creating an ideal motorcycle for city driving that is extremely user-friendly. With no need to shift gears or use a clutch, the W1X handles more like a scooter. It boasts a range of 130 km, making it a convenient and lightweight option for daily commutes in urban areas. Its simplified controls make it easy for anyone with an A1 or B* license (France) to use, even if they are not experienced riders.

*Starting on January 1, 2011, anyone in France with a B license who wants to operate a motorized two-wheeler between 50 and 125 cm3 (L3e) is obligated to complete a 7-hour training. This training has no time limit and applies to all B license holders, regardless of when they received their license. (Source: securite-routiere.gouv.fr)

“Our primary goal has been to find technical solutions that encourage low-carbon transportation for daily commutes. However, we have not neglected the appearance of the W1X. We strived to create a design that is elegant and contemporary, yet also incorporates a hint of nostalgia. The W1X comes in four different colors and can be customized with various options to meet the individual needs of each customer”, explains Olivier Rabatel, Managing Director and Financial Manager Motowatt.

With a top box and a tank box for storing a full-face helmet or customizing the braking and shock absorber system, the W1X can be tailored to fit specific needs. As those needs change over time, the bike can also evolve to meet new demands.
