Choppelectric | a start-up company from Estonia

July 11, 2018 April 15, 2025Guy SalensB2B, E-bikeChoppelectric, Etno, Nordic

The idea of Choppelectric started in the spring of 2016 from the ambition to create a stylish e-bike that would resemble a motorbike. These guys are passionate in developing and creating e-bikes with awesome design and an unforgettable driving experience.

The team consists of 4 members: founders are Markus Kaljuste (on the right) and Rainer Aunpu (in the middle). There is also Randar Ploompuu (on the left) and Harri Lillevars.

Markus has experience in design and sales and started Choppelectric in 2016 and made the first bike, which was a conversion from a bicycle.

He used a 750W 48V rear hub engine and the outcome was awesome. With the building of this first bike he had a great help from Sten Ottep (who’s a BMX-rider) and Johanna Sepp (who was studying product design at the time) At that moment Markus knew that the next step was creating their own design. A few months later the ‘Lightning’ prototype was taking shape (with much wider-bigger box and some errors that are fixed by now.

The ‘Lightning’ prototype

At the summer of 2017 Rainer and Randar joined the team. Rainer has an ABB experience and knows a lot about the electronics and product development – with his great help, Choppelectric is here today. Randar is the in-house upholsterer and has a great experience with leatherworks, as shown on the pictures … All this resulted in the first prototypes of these two bikes: ETNO Lightning and Nordic Lightning (a year after the very first black conversion-prototype)

Choppelectric: handcrafted in Estonia

With these two bikes the team travelled to Germany and took part of the e-bike expo at Dortmund, Germany, which had a pretty good outcome. After this expo they moved on with some product development, based on the user feedback and fixed the errors.

In this year, Harri Lillevars joined who’s a good welder – he has great experience with CrMo and the bikes are crafted from this metal. Choppelectric also found their first reseller in Germany and by now, first bundle of bikes are arrived. At this day, they are making further developments and looking for more resellers. Because they are making great cruiser bikes with unforgettable driving experience, the team is looking for resellers in countries that have mostly warm and sunny weather. First target was Germany, but now they thinking about the U.S market as well. All the bikes are 100% handcrafted and the color of the bikes and leatherworks can be tailor-made on demand by the customer needs.

Nordic Lightning

Choppelectric’s “Nordic Lightning” is a true nordic star. Standing proudly alongside her siblings “Etno” and “upcoming Nocturnal Lightning” she’s an independent, strong and smart girl.
