For several years now, we’ve been keeping up with Belgian automotive designer Ben Surain through THE PACK. In August 2022, we received an invitation to Blankenberge on the Belgian Coast to check out his unique custom project for a private client. Utilizing a TC Max Super Soco as the base, Ben transformed and reconstructed it into a minimalist café racer named “Nuit.”

During that time, Ben was also working on his initial prototypes of the E-Core, a plug-in device designed to easily replace any thermal ‘Base 50’ combustion engine and convert it into an electric engine.
Ben Surain (THE PACK – August 2022): “The prototype is functioning great, and multiple tests have promising results. We are now seeking investors who have faith in this project and can support us in the production and distribution of the product.”

Following the article’s release in 2022, it caused quite a buzz. A simple Google search for “e-core Ben Surain” will display numerous motor media websites that reported on this Belgian sustainable technology. Additionally, an American investor took notice of Ben’s technology and recognized its potential.
A collaboration emerged between Ben and this US investor, and with the American development team led by Ben, they successfully identified and developed a broader application for the E-Core.

A new name
Ben, who has been commuting between Belgium and the US, has redesigned and updated the E-Core concept, now called the DropIN Unit, to oversee its production. Currently, D2G has been operating in the US for nearly a year and is now seeking distributors in Europe.

Death 2 Gas (D2G)
Frank Felipe – Director of Marketing and Influencer Relations – D2G: “Transitioning from gasoline to electric was like building a computer in the 1990s. You had to gather components individually, solder them together, and manually code the system. Death 2 Gas revolutionized this process by integrating the motor, controller, and battery into one cohesive system.”

“This electric crate motor system is a pioneering innovation. It offers a plug-and-play solution that fits directly into motorcycles designed for the BASE 50 engine. We now working on developing base plates to accommodate most gas-powered frames under 200cc”, says Frank.
Various applications and new possibilities
- Retrofit solutions
The initial concept to create a comprehensive ‘retrofit’ kit for converting ICE mopeds into electric models remains intact. Mopeds like the Honda Cub, Honda Grum, Honda Super Cub, and Honda Dax can be transformed using the new DI-Unit from D2G. Nice detail, Ben modified this Honda Dax for his wife, Nathalie.

- Pitbike Racing
D2G has set a new benchmark for pitbikes with their DropIN 72v electric crate motor. This innovation allows ICE mini GP bikes to be effortlessly converted into powerful electric motorbikes. Death 2 Gas is now in discussions with leading global brands. The benefits are significant: indoor racing becomes feasible without air pollution, there’s no noise, and more torque and power are delivered. Tests show track records being beaten by 4 or 5 seconds. Riders can maintain their training routines year-round without disrupting the season.

- Custom building
DIY enthusiasts and custom builders can incorporate this new D2G Pack into their projects. It saves them hours of effort by eliminating the need to search for the right components and assemble them into a functional unit.
What comes in the box?
- Motor System
- Battery
- Charger
- Display
- Throttle Box
- Wire harness
- Keyed Ignition
- Drive Mode Selector
Ben Surain launched his side project ‘No Name’ to demonstrate the potential of new technology: a minimalist light electric vehicle featuring the DropIN pack integrated into a newly designed frame.

- Tech solutions for startups and new brands
D2G presents an intriguing partnership opportunity for emerging brands and startups in their growth phase. The research and development for the DropIN 72v electric crate motor has already been completed, allowing designers to concentrate on creating their electric motorbikes. D2G aims to establish itself as a leading force in the electric motor industry.

- Other industries
Moreover, this DropIN Unit isn’t just limited to electric mopeds and motorcycles. It can also be incorporated into other applications to convert them into electric versions:
- lawn mowers
- go-carts
- jet ski’s or waterscooters
- snowmobiles
This limitless sustainable solution is set to play a significant role in the global circular economy.

Distributors wanted
Guy Salens from THE PACK notes: “There are over 35 million motorcycles in Europe (Source: ACEM), many of which are older models with internal combustion engines. Given Europe’s significant regulatory push towards electrification and urban sustainability, D2G identifies a key target market.”
D2G is currently seeking distributors in Europe to promote their new DropIN 72v electric crate motor. If you’re interested, reach out to D2G via sales@deathtogas.com.
