Alexey Afanasyev is an Industrial Designer with enormous passion for motorcycles, 3D modeling and emerging new technologies in product visualization, all in one package. Born and raised in a family where motorcycling has been tradition for several generations, and he is not an exception. One way or another, he tries to make his life rotate around these 2 wheeled machines.

His bike design journey probably started in kindergarten when his old man took him for a ride on his ’99 Honda Shadow, since then Alexey was hooked. He then moved to Hong Kong, to work as an Industrial Designer next to the manufacturing capital of the world that is Guangzhou now.

In the after-work hours he has been working on his Ducati “Naughty Quadro” project that has been well received by the public and got his work on big websites such as Asphalt&Rubber, BikeExif and BikeNation.

Since then he worked with several motorcycle companies, helping them visualize their dream bikes. Exciting shapes and cool attitude are his go-to’s when designing bikes.

Alexey: “People tend to forget that bikes are toys that are here to put a smile on your face in a first place, so my job is to make sure that happens! Currently I work in the agency where we specialize in creating exciting new experiences for users to interact with their future purchases, one of those projects is a motorcycle configurator for Dab Motors that recently came out that some people called “The future of motorcycle shopping”.

All these new technologies such as AR and VR are here to stay no matter what, look at Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Deus Ex Human Revolution – most of what they talk about is not as far as you think, so in my opinion it’s essential to be familiar with new tech if you want to sell anything nowadays. Using power of design to invoke emotions, clever marketing and outstanding presentation are the key 3 elements I try to use in all of my design work. Staying focused on your passion and having fun working on it, is what motorcycling is all about for me.”
