The world’s most popular motorcycle racing series is adding an all-electric class in 2019: the Electric MotoGP. The championship is exclusively reserved for 1 manufacturer for the first 3 seasons. 3 months ago we heared that Saroléa was also on the shortlist with Energica and Lightning Motorcycles. On September 21th legendary MotoGP rider Loris Capirossi was riding the beautiful SP7 on the track at Aragon in Spain.
“It handled like a MotoGP bike” he told Saroléa after the tests.
But last week Dorna announced that the supplier for this new and exciting prospect will be the Italian innovator Energica. Dorna is the exclusive commercial and TV rights holder for the leading motorcycle racing championships on the planet.
Energica Motor Company S.p.A. is the first Italian manufacturer of high performing electric motorcycles. The company, headquartered in Modena, in the heart of the Italian Motor Valley, is the sustainable subsidiary of CRP Group – a pioneer in the world of international motorsports and a hub of excellence for its state-of-the-art technologies. Energica has brought together the brightest minds in Formula 1 racing and only highly qualified workers assemble the Energica models. Each motorcycle undergoes countless quality controls and performance tests ensuring that each bike is perfect.
Today Energica Motorcycles are sold in Europe and the United States: among the 3 models of the manufacturer, with powers from 80 to 107 KW, there is the sportbike Energica Ego. This model will be used by teams that will race the Moto E in a tuned version. All Energica models are equipped with DC fast charging capability, allowing the motorcycles to recharge in less than 30 Minutes. Energica is the only electric motorcycle manufacturer to include the DC Fast Charging technology based on CCS Combo.
“We are proud to have been chosen by Dorna and we are already committed to this project.” Said Livia Cevolini, CEO Energica Motor Company S.p.A.
“The passion for engines is what brought us here, to build new dream vehicles right at the beating heart of speed, Modena, the Italian Motor Valley. We took the electric field to another level: each Energica undergoes quality control and performance tests, and our R&D department is always focused on new technologies and their concrete application.”
Our history comes from racing, our passion for this sector has never faded. FIM Moto-e World Cup is an excellent project. After all, it is what we hoped since our racing years, now it can be managed professionally thanks to Dorna and its unique and long-lasting experience.”
Vito Ippolito, FIM President, comments: “The FIM is very happy to support the development of new technologies, of which the new FIM Moto-e World Cup is an example. Energica is proving itself to be a reliable and expert leader in this sector and with the highly qualified support of Dorna we are sure that we are taking the road to success.”
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, adds: “The FIM Moto-e World Cup is a new and exciting project for Dorna, and it makes us very proud to announce Energica will be the supplier in this new venture.
