Droog Moto builds your Zero FX to a DM-016 E-Fighter

Source: Droog Moto | To start off 2020 we wanted to get our hands on another electric machine. We had built a Brammo Empulse R turned Scrambler a few months back that was rad to work on and caught a lot of attention. We got our hands on a new 2020 Zero FX and immediately saw it had the potential for what we wanted to create. A stealthy and sleek machine. Capable of hitting trails, bombing through city chaos and general hooligan riding!

Zero features the FX and FXS in a 3.6 modular or the 7.2 standard setup. We chose to go with the 3.6 modular version with an additional removable battery as it can be a bit more versatile for different riding situations. The other battery can be charging at home while you’re out and about or pop it in at the same time to get the full 7.2 range.

To start things off we stripped the FX of it’s plastic shell and removed all the unnecessary items. We kept the ABS system in place which is tucked under the new handcrafted tank cover along with all the wiring bits. The new tank is more of a shell that houses all the wiring and we wanted this to flow with the look of the bike. The Zero comes with a lightweight aluminum frame setup which is great for weight and keeping the general machine down on the scale. To keep this motion flowing we went with a floating style subframe design which is covered with bolt on panels as seen. A new seat was designed and put in place to flow with the tank. It features our classic look of a light pillow top with a grippy textured side for some increased grip and wear. Under the seat is also a small storage area and routing of brake lines and other items.

The stock wheels were removed and we decided to run a 17” super moto setup. We had them built with all back options. It adds to the builds aesthetic and vibe. The wheels were then treated with a tubeless setup to reduce weight and rotating mass. Our tire of choice for this bike was the Pirelli Scorpion Rally. An awesome looking tire with great performance on and off road. Not as knobby as we typically do but it still gets the job done!

For lighting on the E-Fighter we chose to go with all LED. It is very bright and also helps reduce battery usage. Bar end turn signals aid in clean lines and keeping items discreet. A new front master cylinder was put in place along with upgraded reservoirs front and rear.

The suspension also received an upgrade. The rear was put together using an all new spring and other bits to get the bike dialed in, along with the front which was also internally upgraded.

Overall the bike was kept lightweight and easy to flick around. We offer the build on our website as part of our built to order series. The client can choose from a variety of options from 3.6-7.2 battery, solid or spoke wheels and other essentials to make each machine tailor made to them.
