Branded content – While new electric motorbikes are getting a lot of attention, there’s something just as exciting happening behind the scenes: the rise of the second-hand electric motorbike market. THE PACK spoke with Director and owner Gert-Jan Rongen from Electric Motorbikes Nederland, one of the oldest multi-brand electric motorbike stores in the Netherlands.

Electric motorbikes are awesome, as we know, a lot of torque, no noise, lower maintenance, and a smaller carbon footprint. But brand-new ones aren’t always cheap, and not everyone can afford the latest model. This is where the used market comes into play, offering a more affordable alternative.
A strong second-hand market means:
- Lower prices for more people
- Less waste from discarded bikes and batteries
- More options and flexibility for first-time EV users
Gert-Jan Rongen: “Let’s face it, cost is important. Not everyone is eager to spend a lot on a brand-new electric motorcycle, particularly if they’re just exploring electric mobility. Here’s a point that’s often overlooked: sustainability isn’t only about using electric vehicles — it’s also about making the most of what we already possess.”

The second-hand electric motorbike market is more than a trend — it’s a necessary step toward affordable, accessible, and sustainable mobility. It lowers barriers for entry, cuts waste, and helps more people take part in the electric (r)evolution. So whether you’re a budget-savvy buyer, an eco-conscious commuter, or just tired of gas prices, the second-hand e-bike scene is worth checking out.
Gert-Jan Rongen: “One of the advantages is that a second-hand motorbike is always available right now, with no waitlists or shipping delays, a problem that we are still facing today, unfortunately. Before we position these second-hand bikes into the market, every technical detail is checked, so you have a trustworthy light electric vehicle. And if any problems would occur, our service-center is always stand-by. Just like buying a used car became normal, buying a used e-bike should be too.”

“At the moment, we have a nice range of second-hand motorbikes in our shop as you can see below here. And Zero Motorcycles (Electric Motorbikes is one of the longest established dealers in the Netherlands) has extended its ‘Go Electric’ promotion through June 30, 2025. You can save up to €6,000 depending on the model, making it an ideal opportunity to join the electric movement and enhance your riding experience.” says Gert-Jan.
