FTN Motion launches limited-run Phantom edition of the Streetdog
FTN Motion, the New Zealand-based electric motorcycle maker, has released a limited edition variant of its Streetdog called the Phantom. The run is capped at 30 units, available as either the Streetdog 50 or the Streetdog XR.
Pricing and availability
The Phantom configured on the Streetdog 50 is priced at NZD 10,640. The Streetdog XR version costs NZD 11,640. FTN Motion states each unit carries more than NZD 3,000 worth of upgrades bundled into the price, bringing the combined retail value to over NZD 13,640. Reservations require a NZD 500 deposit, and each bike is individually numbered out of 30. The company says it will not produce a second batch once the run sells out.
What’s different on the Phantom
The Phantom is built on the standard Streetdog platform but adds a set of cosmetic and functional upgrades not sold separately on other Streetdog models:
- Two exclusive colourways, Phantom Blue and Phantom Green, with retro-inspired decals unique to this edition
- Colour-matched front and rear mudguards
- Rubber front fork gaitors
- Adjustable footpegs
- Choice of tyre and seat options at no extra cost
- Custom side number and an engraved dog tag
- Sequential edition number stamped on the bike
Buyers choose between the Streetdog 50 or Streetdog XR base platform before selecting colourway, seat, tyres and accessories.
Streetdog 50 vs. Streetdog XR
The two base models remain mechanically distinct. The Streetdog 50 tops out at 50 km/h, which keeps it within licence-free or car-licence riding categories in a number of Australian states and in New Zealand. FTN Motion quotes a real-world range of 80–100 km on a single charge. Riders wanting more ground clearance can add the Raised Performance Pack, which brings over the XR’s longer forks, swingarm and shocks.
The Streetdog XR uses a more powerful rear hub motor and controller for an 85 km/h top speed, with the longer suspension components fitted as standard. Range drops to a quoted 60–80 km due to the added performance draw. Riding the XR requires a full motorcycle licence in New Zealand and in the ACT, NSW, Tasmania and Victoria in Australia; a car licence suffices in SA, QLD, WA and NT.
Both platforms share the same removable battery, integrated 30-litre storage, touchscreen display and other core Streetdog features regardless of which edition is chosen.
FTN Motion has sold more than 400 Streetdogs across New Zealand and Australia to date. The Phantom is the company’s first numbered limited edition of the model.
