But times change, and so do riders. The older ‘freedom generation’ is slowly disappearing. Naxeon is focused on the new rider, a freedom-seeking, environmentally conscious young urbanite.

Naxeon’s website illustrates how their motorcycles glide silently through the city’s streets and highways. The opening statement reads: ‘yourself unbound’ — followed by ‘Born for the urban, designed for libertation.’

Naxeon is a young and innovative Chinese electric motorcycle brand, part of Chongqing Naxeon Technology, founded in 2021. Since 2023, Naxeon has been launching smart urban electric motorcycles packed with advanced features such as onboard cameras, interactive lighting, safety systems, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and semi solid-state batteries.

Currently, there are two models available: the ‘I AM’ and the ‘I AM Pro’, both eligible for A1 license holders.

When you roll up on the I AM Pro, it feels like you’ve ridden in straight from the year 2050. Few bikes grab attention quite like it. Its futuristic design, unconventional front-end, and electric drivetrain all play a part. But it doesn’t stop there, its tech-packed dashboard and numerous smart gadgets are true head-turners.

Let’s be honest: the Naxeon won’t be for everyone. This is a radically different machine from what traditional motorcyclists are used to, everything except for the black, round wheels. Unlike other brands, Naxeon has made no attempt to disguise modern technology behind retro looks. As they say: ‘We live in the now, with the people who will ride tomorrow.’

Starting the I AM Pro is an experience in itself. No key needed. Just like a Tesla, you place the NFC card on the handlebar, and the bike comes to life with a welcoming tune. Alternatively, you can activate it via the app.

On the TFT screen, you’ll find everything you need: estimated range, battery status, Bluetooth pairing (which auto-activates when you’re nearby), and the ride modes: Snail, Dynamic, and Zig Zag, the latter being the sportiest setting.

Using GPS, you can locate nearby charging stations and plan your route accordingly. Swipe through the touchscreen to view real-time ride data: speed, odometer, charge level, and even tire pressure. You can also replay footage captured by the front and rear cameras.

Unlike traditional motorcycles, the Naxeon has no foot brake or gear lever. It’s just twist-and-go. Braking is done via handlebar levers, like on a bicycle. Despite the futuristic aesthetic, the seating position is surprisingly familiar. At 800 mm seat height, with a low-set handlebar and mid-mounted footpegs, you sit upright with a clear view of traffic.

The I AM Pro is a single-seater, no passenger pegs here. Maneuvering is assisted by the Snail and Reverse modes. Thanks to the 17-inch wheels, low weight (137 kg), and tight turning radius, it’s highly agile in city traffic.

The front immediately catches the eye with its high-mounted shock absorber, integrated into a Girder-style front fork, a classic system with modern anti-dive functionality. At the rear, you’ll find a monoshock suspension setup. Braking comes from single disc brakes at both ends, with a 4-piston front caliper and a 2-piston rear. There’s no built-in storage, but optional saddlebags are available.

The 6.5 kWh battery paired with a highly efficient air-cooled hub motor in the rear wheel is more than adequate for urban use. The motor produces 7.5 kW continuous and 10.5 kW (14 hp) peak power. A ‘Boost’ mode gives extra punch when needed. The ride is remarkably quiet, and with 270 Nm of instant torque, throttle response is lively. Braking is strong and progressive. Suspension settings are basic, with only preload adjustability, and could use more damping.

In the city, the claimed range seems achievable. For mixed or highway use, expect around ‘100 km’ of range. Short highway trips are possible, but anything beyond 70 km will drop battery levels below 30%, after which the top speed is limited to 80 km/h.

Conclusion

The Naxeon I AM Pro is as surprising as it looks. Its bold design isn’t for everyone, and that’s entirely intentional. Build quality and materials are solid, and fit and finish are clean.

This A1-class motorcycle offers impressive performance, is easy to ride, and is built for rapidly changing urban environments. Its onboard features clearly target younger riders who will quickly embrace its tech-forward approach. The dramatic light and sound show fits the vibe. Strong brakes and the blind spot radar enhance safety, though the suspension could use more damping.

The city is its playground, but short highway stretches are doable, or buy it just for fun. Ultimately, the Naxeon is all about joy and freedom.

The Naxeon I AM Pro is priced at €7,990, while the I AM costs €5,990, including a home charging cable (prices for Belgium, add €200 BPM for the Netherlands).
