NIU Concept 06: the smart electric maxi-scooter of tomorrow
NIU, the Chinese electric mobility pioneer best known for its urban scooters, surprised the crowd at EICMA 2025 with something entirely new: the Concept 06, a bold step into the high-performance, premium segment. Far from another small city runabout, this futuristic electric maxi-scooter marks a new era for the brand.

From city streets to the open road
Until now, NIU’s lineup focused on compact 50–125 cc equivalents aimed at dense urban use. With the Concept 06, the company signals a shift toward long-range touring and motorway-capable performance.
The scooter’s claimed 20 kW electric motor delivers a top speed of around 155 km/h, positioning it among heavyweights like the BMW CE 04 or the upcoming SYM E-Maxx. NIU hasn’t disclosed battery details yet, but the platform looks large enough to host a pack in the 6–9 kWh range, hinting at a real-world range well above 150 km.
Design: futurism meets function
Visually, the Concept 06 is a head-turner. Its stretched silhouette, layered bodywork, and floating tail-light architecture signal a move toward mature, European-oriented design. The LED signature up front is unmistakably NIU, but sharper, more muscular.

Inside the cockpit, riders get a 9.3-inch TFT display, accompanied by a rotary controller and touch-responsive interface. Adjustable handlebars, a motorized windscreen, and ambient lighting add to the premium experience.

Technology beyond mobility
NIU didn’t stop at styling. The Concept 06 integrates a radar-assisted safety suite and 360° camera system, providing advanced rider assistance and hazard detection. The onboard “KI-Pilot”, an AI-powered system, learns from the rider’s habits, adjusting performance, lighting, and alerts dynamically.
Adaptive headlights, traction management, and continuous environmental monitoring suggest that NIU is investing heavily in smart riding intelligence, an area where traditional motorcycle brands are only beginning to play.

Europe in its sights
NIU made it clear that this scooter isn’t just a design exercise. The Concept 06 targets the European maxi-scooter segment, where performance, comfort, and safety tech drive buying decisions. The company is positioning it as a 125-cc+ electric equivalent, compatible with existing L3e licensing categories.
A production model could arrive as soon as 2027, though NIU emphasized that the concept’s advanced systems may evolve before homologation.

A new chapter for NIU
For a brand built on lightweight urban mobility, the Concept 06 represents ambition, and confidence. If NIU can deliver even most of what’s promised, the 20 kW powertrain, the intelligent assist features, and the refined ergonomics, it could redefine expectations for electric scooters in Europe.
