Source: website Energica | Samsung Electronics Italia, in collaboration with Energica Motor Company S.p.A., today announces Smart Ride, a project that aims to allow a completely new driving experience.

In Italy, a country where the motorcycle market is growing, registering a 4.3% increase in registrations in the first half of 2018 [1], urban mobility on two wheels is a crucial issue, not just with a view to reducing emissions and streamlining of traffic, but also with a view to technological development for the introduction of innovative solutions for the benefit of motorcyclists.

Smart Ride proposes a new way of experiencing the bike. A solution that perfectly reflects the Do What You Can Not philosophy of Samsung, innovation at the service of people and their passions makes it possible to reach otherwise unattainable goals.

“At Samsung we are aware that innovation can play a fundamental role because it allows us to realize revolutionary projects that have a direct impact on everyday life. Precisely for this reason, our commitment is to continue to explore new sectors that allow us to transform ideas into real projects thanks to technology“, explains Francesco Cordani, Head of Marcom of Samsung Electronics Italia. “With the aim of developing a solution of high importance and quality, we wanted to collaborate with a valuable brand in the two-wheeler world as Energica, which thanks to its experience and propensity for innovation is a partner of excellence to begin this journey with the realization of the Smart Ride project”.

“We are proud to support a world reference point like Samsung in the Smart Ride project”, emphasizes Livia Cevolini, CEO of Energica Motor Company SpA, “Our company idea is rooted in the well-known Italian Motor Valley: engines and innovation are always been in our DNA. During these years we have interpreted the needs of the market by anticipating products and solutions that are unique in the world. We went beyond the status quo that current technology offered, creating new know-how. Creating Innovation. I hope that the Energica and Samsung vision connected in this new Smart Ride project can be an inspiration for the development of electric mobility in Italy and across the borders”.

The prototype BOLID-E

The prototype designed by Energica Motor Company for Smart Ride was designed starting from the old-style electric Eva EsseEsse9, the new Best Electric Bike of the Year 2018. The result is “Bolid-E”, a speed machine that enhances the concept of speed as emotion: a futuristic motion that combines Samsung technologies and Energica expertise.

The logo itself incorporates this concept by proposing the graphics of the headlights in the second letter. Bolid-E is the evolution of the key concept of Eva EsseEsse9: an alchemy of passion and tradition that Speed projects towards the future.

Smart Ride

Smart Ride, a project managed and developed in all phases in Italy by Samsung and Energica, consists in making possible the interaction, via NFC and Bluetooth connection, between the Samsung Galaxy Watch smartwatch [2] and the Energica bike, guaranteeing the riders a new way of living the experience with your own bike. In addition, the Energica bike is equipped with smart mirrors. Head-up displays consist of two Samsung Galaxy A series [3] devices integrated into the mirrors that, thanks to the videos generated by the two cameras – one rear and one front – on the bike, revolutionize road safety by analyzing real-time footage and signaling to the driver possible dangers and obstacles on his path.

Thanks to the interaction with the Samsung smartwatch [4] through the dedicated “Energica” App [5], the motorcyclist can manage his Energica bike via Bluetooth, verifying the battery charge status and the relative autonomy and displaying the position of the motorcycles on the map (thanks to the integrated GPS on the bike). It is also possible to view in real time the average consumption of the vehicle, the current supplied, trip information such as total and partial odometer (TRIP) and vehicle performance (Speed, Torque, Power, RPM).

Samsung and Energica also revolutionize the way to start the bike: through the interaction (NFC) between the Galaxy Watch and the vehicle it is possible to create a virtual key that will allow, when the smartwatch is approached to the tank, to start the bike. In addition, the rider can share his virtual key with a selection of contacts from his address book. Before leaving, you can also set your destination and start recording the route.

Smart Ride is a project that not only wants to innovate the experience of driving, but also to guarantee a high level of safety on the road. Thanks to the smart mirrors, the Samsung Head-up Display, you can view, without any distraction, useful information along the way, as possible obstacles, the presence of vehicles in blind spots, pedestrians in the roadway. In addition, during the journey you can check the presence of charging columns AC or DC near the bike, thanks to the GPS integrated into the Samsung Galaxy Watch.

The Energica riding experience is characterized by speed and performance: by activating the Track Recording function it is possible to relive virtually on your Samsung Smart TV the emotions of the route made thanks to the recording of the cameras integrated into the bike and the data recorded by the smartwatch. Moreover, thanks to Smart Ride, the Energica motorcyclist can share his passion with friends through the features of Track Sharing and Key Sharing. In order to guarantee the most effective security, Samsung and Energica have implemented a remote monitoring system for the motorcycle when used by several users. It is possible to display on a map the current position of the user and his energetic motion, define a radius in which the bike can be used and be alerted when it gets too far.
