Zero Motorcycles announces Level 3 DC fast charging starting in 2027
Faster charging becomes accessible for both new and current Zero riders, enabling a 20% to 80% charge in just 30 minutes.
New CCS port and fast-charging module
Zero’s engineering team is currently developing a new CCS charging port and fast-charging module that will be available on new Street and Dual Sport motorcycles from Zero Motorcycles later in 2027. In addition, the module is being designed so it can be retrofitted as an accessory on all Street and Dual Sport models from model year 2022 onward.
For Zero, this breakthrough is about more than just charging speed. It is also about making next-generation charging technology accessible across the motorcycle’s entire lifecycle.

“DC fast charging is a major advantage in making the switch to electric mobility more attractive, and it will bring more riders to Zero Motorcycles,” says Pierre-Martin Bos, CEO of Zero Motorcycles. “It’s also a feature some of our customers regularly asked about, and we listened. We didn’t want to offer this technological development only on future Zero models, but also let the thousands of existing Zero owners benefit from it, further increasing the value of their motorcycle. That’s why we will make the CCS port and DC fast-charging module available as an accessory for the relevant motorcycles from model year 2022 onward. We’re doing this at the right time: DC fast charging is expanding rapidly across Europe and North America, giving riders more freedom to travel further and faster.”
From Level 2 to Level 3
Zero already offers customers the option to upgrade the standard 6.6 kW charging configuration on select Street and Dual Sport Line models to 12.6 kW via the Rapid Charge System. This Level 2 charging capacity supplements the standard onboard charger and is a benchmark within the industry, delivering a 20% to 80% charge in under 45 minutes. By enabling Level 3 DC fast charging on all Street and Dual Sport motorcycles with battery capacity up to 17.3 kWh, Zero Motorcycles continues to push the boundaries, cutting the 20% to 80% charge time down to under 30 minutes.
Additional information on compatible models, retrofit requirements, pricing, availability, and final charging specifications will be released as development progresses.
Editor’s note: It’s taken a while, but Zero Motorcycles has finally listened to its riders. DC fast charging has been one of the most persistent requests from the Zero community, and the fact that the company is making it retrofittable back to model year 2022 – rather than reserving it for future buyers only – is the part worth noting. It rewards existing owners instead of pushing them toward a new purchase.
