Gert-Jan Rongen | Director Electric Motorbikes Netherlands: “Recently, the electric motorcycle industry has been hit with some negative news. The whole community was surprised by the developments at CAKE, and we can only hope that their CEO & founder, Stefan Ytterborn, will be able to turn things around with CAKE 2.0.
Gert-Jan: “The news of Pursang Motorcycles (Spain) going bankrupt was also heartbreaking. I remember how the owners had put all their hopes on the E-Track motorbike, hoping it would fulfill their “Bultaco” aspirations to become a new legend. But sadly, it remained just a dream. And here again, I hope for a solution.”
RGNT Motorcycles
“Back in the early days of 2019, Flip Oude Weernink and I had our initial discussions with Jonathan Åström from RGNT Motorcycles. As a multi-brand store owner, I am constantly on the lookout for new startups and brands (THE PACK being my biggest source of inspiration). We became the exclusive distributor for the Netherlands after RGNT released their “retro” tech Number 1, a partnership that still stands today.”, says Gert-Jan.
“In December 2023, we were informed that RGNT Electric AB had been unable to secure enough venture capital to support their ongoing operations. Due to a severe shortage of funds, the board had no choice but to file for bankruptcy for RGNT Electric AB at this time.”
“We were very pleased to read in THE PACK that Jonathan Åström, the founder of RGNT Motorcycles, has returned after being absent for eighteen months. He has regained control of the company he established in 2019 with Gideon Schipaanboord, who now leads the marketing and sales team, and Alexander Lewandowski, the CTO and Head of Design. The three of them have formed a new company called RGNT Reborn, which acquired all intellectual property, tooling, and remaining inventory from the previous company.”
“This is a positive development for both our e-mobility sector and our own company, as we will be able to continue selling this renowned Swedish brand of electric motorbikes”, concludes Gert-Jan.
