The Motorman appears in more and more cities. Early adopters are driving around in cities like Amsterdam, Antwerp, Düsseldorf, Munich, Copenhagen, Zurich, London, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Saint Tropez. This is an electric moped which is not only durable, economical and practical but, above all, whose appearance is particularly stylish. It is made by hand using qualitatively superior materials. And it is a product with a unique design from the hand of the Maastricht designer, Ronald Meijs.
Designed, developed and built in the Netherlands
The design arose from a combination of idealism and practical necessity when Ronald Meijs noticed that urban mobility is increasingly becoming more problematic. We love cities for their human energy, the creativity, the business vibe and the squares and streets where people meet. But we loath them for the poor air quality, the constant noise and the lack of personal space. We drive in big, luxury, complex cars but get annoyed by the heavy traffic, parking problems …
Ronald searched for a solution with the idea at the back of his mind that, more than anything else, mobility should be light and pleasurable. From the very outset it was immediately clear that the vehicle should not produce any CO2 emissions. He wanted it to be simple, easy to use and fun to drive. He designed the Motorman and, in doing so, achieved the perfect balance between durability, functionality and design.
The MEIJS Motorman is assembled in our own working station in the Netherlands, working as closely as possible with local suppliers.
Riding and use
Riding may best be described as friendly and light. This is first and foremost due to the fact that the vehicle’s minimalistic design ensures that it is very light, weighing only 45 kg. You feel safe because it is always possible to place your feet on the ground. The Motorman is stable enough to ride on country roads and is manoeuvrable in urban traffic. Electricity-powered riding is responsible for a new experience: it is quiet and fast.
The Motorman’s maximum speed is 45 kph. With a fully charged battery it is possible to cover 50 km to 65 km. This is perfectly in line with what the Motorman is used for, being designed for shorter distances. Research reveals that most of the trips that we take (by car) are even shorter than 20 km. Recharging is possible anywhere where there is an ordinary power point.
The technology
The underlying premise of the Motorman technology is quality, reliability and ease of use. The vehicle has a powerful, brushless, direct drive hub motor. It has no moving parts and, as such, is not subject to wear and tear either. Its engine power is 2 kW with a torque of 60 Nm.
The battery, which has been placed in the “tank”, is a Lithium ion one, the same kind that Tesla uses in its vehicles. It has a capacity of 1.5 kWh. The frame is made entirely of steel. The front fork is made of a single piece of CrMo steel.
The frame, including the front fork, is powder-coated. The saddle has also been manufactured especially for the Motorman. Made of steel, the saddle plate is upholstered with harness leather. The Motorman hase been certified for all EU countries, as well as Switzerland and Norway.
