Trevor Motorcycles BV was founded in July 2020 by artist Philippe Stella and “die-hard petrolhead” Jeroen-Vincent Nagels in Belgium. By March 2023, their first model, the DTRe Stella, rolled off of the production line at Maison Saroléa in Oudenaarde. Although rumors about an entry level model called the DTRe Vince have been circulating, for now Trevor only produces the DTRe Stella with all its premium features. This bike comes with top parts from suppliers such as Öhlins, Beringer, Domino, Excel, Haan Wheels and Afam.
The success of developing and releasing the Trevor DTRe is largely owed to four core elements:
To begin with, co-founder Philippe Stella has lived in Los Angeles for 17 years and his fondness for California is a primary ingredient of the Trevor. Designer John McInnis from San Francisco, renowned for his work on electric pioneer Alta Motorcycles and LiveWire, created the original design of the DTRe Stella with American flat track motorcycles in mind.
Secondly, co-founder Jeroen-Vincent Nagels, who has a long history of riding motorcycles while working for Honda, Triumph and Saroléa, brings a deep understanding of the rich Belgian motorcycling heritage. Under his leadership with Philippe, the Belgian technology division from Saroléa transformed McInnnis’ concept into a production-ready motorcycle, introducing a new era to the wealthy Belgian motorbike culture.
Then, Jeroen-Vincent has a special affinity for British sports cars and the less is more principle. The name Trevor is inspired by the founder of TVR, but it also reflects the “keep it simple” attitude of the English. This minimalism is clearly evident in the design of Trevor: nothing is superfluous, everything serves a purpose, and every detail was chosen for its sustainability.
And last but not least, Trevor Motorcycles also has a dose of Spanish motorbike history, as Philippe spent much of his childhood in Catalonian Cadaques and rode Montesa’s, Ossa’s and Bultaco’s. These classic Spanish off-road motorcycles are reflected in the looks of the DTRe. So, it has a cocktail of excellent ingredients from America, United Kingdom, Spain, but mostly Belgium!
“No boundaries, just horizons to explore. This Belgian company shows they have a global mindset. Let’s ride. Even the Mayor of Miami agrees (Yep, he bought one).”
Guy Salens – THE PACK
Trevor Motorcycles has recently an agreement with THE PACK “Electric Motorcycle News”, one of the few information websites about LEVs. This collaboration will provide the company more opportunities to expand internationally. What’s interesting is that Trevor Motorcycles was noticed by a Canadian investment fund after an article appeared on THE PACK.
Guy Salens – THE PACK: “I consider myself very lucky to have been part of this project from the start with Trevor Motorcycles. I will never forget that first encounter back in 2020, when Philippe and Jeroen-Vincent laid out John’s initial design sketches for me in a coffee shop in Antwerp. These guys were so passionate and motivated in creating a new Belgian electric motorcycle brand. And look at what they’ve achieved now! It’s incredible, and it’s only going to get better …”
For those wishing to visit the new Antwerp headquarters of Trevor Motorcycles, the doors are always open and the test ride schedule (link) has been re-opened. Just get in touch with their team!
