Mopedix Electrix 45: a modern Czech electric moped with old-school soul
Author and test rider: Andrew Thijssen | BMS E-Motorrijder | For many riders over 50, mopeds are more than just a practical mode of transport: they’re a nostalgic reminder of earlier days. That’s not only true in Western Europe, but also in the Czech Republic. And it’s there, over a casual beer, that the idea for Mopedix was born: reviving the classic moped, but this time with a modern, fully electric heart. As the Mopedix team explains on their website, it was clear from the very first sip that their ‘new-old’ machine had to be electric.

Today, Mopedix is a reality, an electric moped from the Czech Republic inspired by the legendary Jawa Babetta, a hugely popular Czech moped from the 1970s and ’80s.

Czech through and through
It’s no coincidence that the idea took shape over a beer. Mopedix has its headquarters in Zaječice, right next to the historic Benešov brewery in Bohemia. The creators are fiercely proud of their roots: the Mopedix is a Czech concept, a Czech design, and built largely from Czech-made components. Even the battery cells come from Brno.

This isn’t a little toy moped either. The Mopedix stands tall with 19-inch wheels, disc brakes, a modern LED headlight, and a sturdy rear rack capable of carrying a clip-on passenger seat. And yes, you guessed it, proper moped pedals are included for full nostalgia points.

Tech & Specs
At the rear sits a hub motor with 2.5 kW nominal output and 4 kW peak power, assisted by regenerative braking. It uses bicycle-style brake levers for its hydraulic discs, which feels intuitive. The removable battery packs 2.3 kWh, offering up to 75 km of range. Charging takes:
- 7.5 hours with the standard 230V / 5A charger
- 2.5 hours with the optional 15A fast charger
Weight: 97 kg
Max load: 176 kg
Suspension: twin rear shocks + telescopic front fork

Riding the Mopedix
The first impression is strong: tidy welds, quality paintwork, well-finished details. The large front-mounted battery leaves no doubt you’re on a serious electric machine. Mounting the Mopedix feels like climbing onto a large bicycle. The wide, height-adjustable saddle is comfortable and upright.

The ignition uses a key, and you get three riding modes:
- Mode 1: 20 km/h
- Mode 2: 30 km/h
- Mode 3: 45 km/h (standard moped limit)
Acceleration is surprisingly strong, instant torque right off the line. The pedals are mostly symbolic and only useful if you’ve completely drained the battery. Just like old mopeds: lots of pedaling, not much speed.

The digital display is clear, though the contrast could be better in bright sunlight. Comfort is good thanks to the suspension and wide seat. Modes 1 and 2 are ideal for city riding; Mode 3 works well outside built-up areas. Hit the Boost button and the Mopedix shoots up to 65 km/h, dropping back to 45 km/h after about 30 seconds unless you keep the button pressed.

The claimed 75 km range is realistic, even with mixed riding. The 19” wheels give confidence on dirt or gravel tracks, and the suspension handles uneven surfaces well.
At top speed you can feel a bit of flex in the front fork, likely because the 13.5 kg battery sits mounted in the front portion of the frame. It never feels unsafe, the brakes and suspension keep everything under control.

Accessories include a clip-on passenger seat, cargo basket, panniers, and a fast charger. For riders craving full vintage charm, Mopedix even offers a sound generator.
Conclusion
Mopedix delivers a well-built, solid and characterful electric moped with a clear nod to Czech heritage. The ergonomics are logical, the riding experience is easy and enjoyable, and the Boost mode is genuinely handy. Thanks to its big wheels and capable suspension, the Mopedix is equally at home on small country paths as it is on city streets.

The pedals are mainly symbolic, but you can assist lightly if you want a bit of movement. Range is more than sufficient for daily commuting, and the luggage options are practical.

The Mopedix comes in black, orange, olive green, and light blue, includes 5 years warranty on the bike and 2 years on the battery, and is priced at €5,700.
