Augment 360: a folding 45 km/h moped built to solve parking, not just riding
Source: press release Augment | Finnish micromobility company Augment has launched the Augment 360, a type-approved L1e-B electric moped (type ZY-MYP001) that folds and rolls on its own wheels once parked. The pitch is narrower than most launch claims: a vehicle fast enough to hold its own in city traffic, but small enough to live inside an apartment rather than on the street.

The parking argument
Augment’s case starts from a familiar complaint among urban scooter owners: not the riding, but the storing. Street parking exposes a vehicle to weather and theft, many buildings lack garages, and bike cellars are often too narrow – or, in some jurisdictions, off-limits to lithium-battery vehicles altogether.
Folded, the 360 measures 1,265 × 350 × 1,180 mm. Augment sizes that claim against EN 81-70, the European standard for accessible lifts: a standard Type 2 accessible car (1,100 × 1,400 mm) leaves 135 mm of clearance with the folded vehicle standing upright; the smallest reduced-size car in the standard (1,000 × 1,250 mm) requires the vehicle to go in tilted. Augment is explicit that this only holds for lifts built to the current standard – older, smaller lifts may still require tilting or a goods lift, and buildings without a lift at all aren’t a fit for this vehicle.

Two secondary points follow from that: a vehicle kept indoors reduces reliance on theft deterrents (the 360 has an electronic immobiliser, but the design intent is not to need it), and the removable 1,080 Wh battery weighs roughly 5 kg, letting an owner bring the battery up rather than the whole vehicle.
Why 45 km/h
Augment frames the vehicle’s top speed against the wider shift to 30 km/h urban limits – now default in Paris and Brussels since 2021, applied nationally to single-lane urban roads in Spain, covering 80% of Amsterdam’s street network since December 2023, and adopted city-wide in Bilbao. The company cites a study across 40 European cities showing 37% fewer road fatalities, 23% fewer crashes and 18% lower emissions following such changes.

The argument: in a 30 km/h traffic flow, a 45 km/h vehicle keeps pace and holds its lane, while a 125cc motorcycle’s higher top speed goes unused and a 25 km/h e-scooter falls behind the traffic around it.
Weight, reframed
At 36 kg with battery (31 kg without), the 360 is light for the category – but Augment pushes back on framing that around carrying it upstairs. The company’s argument is that mass matters most below 20 km/h: filtering through stationary traffic, U-turns, tight junctions, and pivoting the vehicle in a corridor or bike room, where a heavier machine typically requires an multi-point shuffle against a wall. A single rider can also lift a 36 kg machine upright alone, which Augment notes isn’t generally true of 100+ kg mopeds.
CEO Jukka Peltola: “People hear 36 kg and ask whether you can carry it upstairs.” His broader point is that the vehicle is meant to be rolled, not carried – folded, it moves on its own wheels, and the design assumption is a lift, not a stairwell.

Design and build
The 360 was designed by Christian Zanzotti, whose Munich studio has worked with BMW, UNU Motors and the Durst Group, and who won the German Design Award’s Newcomer of the Year in 2014. The fold geometry rests on single-sided forks front and rear: each wheel supported on one side only, a layout choice that’s harder to engineer on a 45 km/h-rated vehicle but is what enables the folding mechanism. The frame is aluminium, warranted for five years.

A 25 km/h “City” variant shares the same platform with reduced power (1.0 kW continuous) and no seperate peak-power figure disclosed.
Competitive weight class
Augment’s own comparison, based on kerb weight of electric mopeds sold in Europe in 2026: the 360 at 36 kg sits well below the Keeway E-Zi Mini (56 kg), Vmoto CUx Pro (74 kg), Piaggio 1 and Segway E125s (85 kg each), Honda EM1 e: (95 kg), Yamaha Neo’s (98 kg), Horwin EK1 (104–109 kg), Vespa Primavera Elettrica (111 kg) and BMW CE 02 (120 kg). For reference, Honda’s 1981–83 Motocompo – the folding scooter often cited as the category’s precedent – weighed 45 kg and topped out at 30 km/h.

Ownership details
In Germany and Austria, the 45 km/h version requires an AM licence, typically covered by a category B car licence; requirements for the 25 km/h version vary by market. A passenger is not permitted under the type approval. Augment specifies service intervals at 500 km, 1,000 km and 5,000 km/six months, with particular attention to the folding mechanism’s sliding bearings, which are listed as a replaceable service part. The vehicle carries an IPX4 rating, covering ordinary wet-weather riding but not pressure-washing.
What Augment is flagging itself
The company’s FAQ addresses the folding mechanism’s long-term durability directly, stating it’s the component under most scrutiny for wear, that the latch must be fully engaged before every ride, and that some play developing over time isn’t necessarily a fault provided the latch closes securely. It also notes its real-world range figure (50 km) is set below its own type-approval number (53 km) – deliberately, per Peltola, to avoid the pattern of homologation figures nobody sees in practice.
