Countdown to the world first cup for electric motorcycle racing officially started. Energica Motor Company is proud to be part of this new era of professional two-wheeled motorsport.
The Italian company of high-performing electric motorcycles has been chosen by Dorna as single manufacturer for FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup that will start in 2019.
“Our history comes from racing, Energica is part of the CRP Group, from 1970 a pioneer in the world of international motorsports and a hub of excellence for its state- of-the-art technologies.”, said Livia Cevolini, CEO Energica Motor Company S.p.A., “our passion for this sector has never faded”.
In short time Energica has opened a new chapter in the history of Italian Motor Valley, creating a new field within the automotive market: the high-performing electric motorcycle segment. The “Energica” project was born between 2008 and 2009 when the company created an all-electric racing bike called “eCRP”. The design of this racebike required technical expertise and the experience and technologies inherited from the parent company, CRP Group, allowed to create a new concept of racing motorcycling. CRP Group’s know-how in F1 world and aerospace industries supported Energica into further developing electric technology and creating a line of premium street-legal electric motorcycles. Indeed the team made two years of racing and then they started working on a new project: Energica, the first high-performing electric motorcycle.
Today Energica Motorcycles range include 3 models among them there is the sportbike Ego. This model will be used by teams that will race the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup in a tuned version, the EgoGP.
The R&D team is already committed on this bike, working on driveability on the track, and then on track specifications. Testing demo program will be held during the 2018 MotoGP™ World Championship. However EgoGP will have many connections with the production bike.
The sophisticated VCU designed internally is among the peculiar features of Energica bikes, along with fast charge capability: the integrated DC Fast Charging technology based on CCS Combo makes Energica the only electric bike in the world to recharge from 0 to 80% in about 20 minutes .
Each Energica undergoes numerous quality control and performance tests, and the R&D department is always focused on new technologies and their concrete application. “What really makes Energica team different is not just the know-how, but our pure motorcycling passion that has allowed us to build a product not only at the state-of-the-art but also fun and high-performing.” Said Livia Cevolini, CEO Energica Motor Company S.p.A.
“The innovation attitude, the ability to evolve it and the “look beyond” mood are our milestones. We are ready to sign a new chapter in motorsport history along with Dorna, Enel, FIM and Michelin”
Energica EgoGP – Racing e-Motions
The green heart of EgoGP racebike is a synchronous oil-cooled motor with permanent magnets. It allows a maximum continuous power of 110 kW (147 hp/cv) and a torque of 200 Nm. EgoGP accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds to reach a top speed of up to 155 mph. EgopGP does not have a gearbox or a clutch. Everything is regulated by the ride-by-wire system, allowing you to control the acceleration torque of the motor and deceleration based on the regenerative torque or engine braking.
Patents: VCU, Supply Unit, eABS
Energica has invested in R&D since the beginning: the department achieved 3 important patents covering crucial components present on EgoGP:
• VCU – Vehicle Control Unit
Energica’s battery, inverter, charger and ABS are constantly monitored and managed by the high-tech VCU, completely designed and developed by Energica. This Vehicle Control Unit implements a multi-map adaptive energy, and a power management algorithm manages the electric motorcycle. Carefully monitoring and adjusting the motor’s power according to the throttle thrust 100 times per second while riding.
• Supply Unit
This important technical component contains entirely the rechargeable batteries, sealing them in-house. Usually the batteries, contained in this component, warm up: the produced heat dissipates only minimally. Therefore, the batteries contained in the case are subjected to overheating, which would greatly reduce the life cycle. Energica battery case has been designed to avoid this overheating. The case includes a cooling plate made of aluminum and provided with several through holes that communicate outside and cross the cooling plate. Energica is the only electric motorcycle manufacturer to adopt this technology.
• eABS
The latest generation eABS mounted on the Energica motorcycle is able to limit the maximum regenerative torque in case of slippery conditions. In particular, the system verifies the presence of friction conditions and, in case of slippery conditions, limits the maximum regeneration torque.
Fast Charge Energica
EgoGP integrates the DC fast-charge technology based on CCS Combo that allows to charge the bike from 0 to 85% in about 20 minutes.
