B2B News | Back in March of 2021, THE PACK announced the revival of Famel, the renowned Portuguese motorcycle brand, with the release of pre-orders for their new E-XF model. This updated version takes inspiration from the legendary XF-17 and incorporates electric propulsion as a way to modernize the brand. And now, FAMEL is seeking investments to revitalize the company and make the iconic electric XF-17 available once again for riders everywhere.
The NOVUS Fund, in collaboration with Magnify Capital Partners and Banco Português de Fomento, has already injected €2.45 million into the company. Other private entities are also projected to contribute to this investment round. This funding will enable FAMEL to expedite its strategic plan of revitalizing the brand and establishing a strong foothold in the European market for electric two-wheeled vehicles. This effort is in line with the increasing demand for eco-friendly means of transportation. To learn more about how you can invest, please email Famel at invest@famel.pt
A new chapter with deep roots
According to CEO & Re-Founder of FAMEL, Joel Sousa, revitalizing the brand is about more than just creating motorcycles; it’s about reigniting a legacy and a love for the company. By bringing back the beloved XF-17 model, FAMEL not only honors its past but also aligns with the modern desire for environmentally-friendly and efficient modes of transportation.
“The investment round establishes a solid foundation for FAMEL to stand out in the growing electric mobility market, not only in Portugal but also internationally,” highlights António Vieira da Silva, Founder and Chairman at Magnify Capital Partners. With the increasing demand for electric vehicles and governmental support for low-emission vehicles, FAMEL is positioned to capture a significant share of this emerging market.
The updated version of FAMEL will not only be powered by electricity, but it will also feature mostly European parts, with 50% being manufactured in Portugal. This will greatly benefit the environment by reducing its ecological footprint. Furthermore, by using sustainable materials in future models and implementing a business model that emphasizes personalization, the brand aims to align itself with a sustainable way of living and promote long-term use of the vehicle.
FAMEL’s production will soon commence in Anadia, located near Águeda. This strategic location allows FAMEL to make use of the region’s extensive industrial capabilities, particularly in bicycle manufacturing which is the most prominent in all of Europe. The company’s partners possess exceptional skills in the two-wheeled industry and have proven their ability to produce large quantities with uncompromising quality standards.
FAMEL was established in 1949 in Águeda, Portugal and soon became a top motorcycle manufacturer in the country. After a break, the brand is now prepared to transform the field of mobility with a blend of tradition and innovation.
