Alongside its goal of securing consecutive championships with the ice machine in TrialGP, “Honda Montesa” is broadening its reach in the trial world with a novel endeavor in Trial2. For the first time, they are incorporating an electric motorcycle into their lineup. Known for its longstanding success in the sport, the team will compete with the RTL Electric, crafted to rival combustion engine bikes on equal footing.

To spearhead this ambitious initiative, the team has enlisted Miquel Gelabert, a 27-year-old rider with a commendable track record in trial. Gelabert, the 2016 European champion, has consistently showcased his talent and determination in every competition. His expertise and proficiency will be crucial in propelling the RTL Electric to success.

Miquel Gelabert: “I’m very grateful to Honda for trusting me for this new project. It’s an honour to be part of a company with such a long history and to be surrounded by great professionals within Honda Montesa. The RTL Electric is an innovative motorcycle and its development has been incredible. We know that the challenge will be very demanding, but we are working hard to be competitive from the first round.”

This initiative stems from a development that began last season in the Japanese Championship. The RTL Electric made its debut in the sixth round and achieved three victories in the three events it participated in. Honda is dedicated to motorcycle electrification as the cornerstone of its future environmental strategy, with a goal of achieving carbon neutrality in all its products and corporate activities by 2050, and in all motorcycle products by the 2040s.

The aim of the new “Honda Montesa” team for 2025 is to capture the Trial2 title, compete in the World Championships, and advance EV development at a high level, marking a significant milestone in trial history. Introducing the RTL Electric signifies a technological leap in the sport. The motorcycle’s official debut is scheduled for the season’s opening round on April 5th and 6th in Benahavís, Spain, a venue known for its rigorous challenges.
