The electric sport-tourer Zero SR/S was introduced in 2020 by Zero Motorcycles (California – US), just 1 year later after the launch of their Zero SR/F (the naked bike version). Both models are built on the steel trellis frame and coaxial power pivot chassis which has proven to be an efficient technology (also the new Zero SR 2022 has been developed with this frame).
The SR/S 2022 model has a new intriguing colour called “Aileron” and presents an updated operating system Cypher III+ combined with a more powerful battery. You can choose between the Standard ZFORCE 14.4+ kWh battery or the updated Premium version with the 15.6+ kWh battery. The new ZF75-10 motor delivers 140 lb-ft of torque (190 Nm) with a peak power of 110 hp (82 kW) and a limited speed of 200 km/h.
Completely new in the electric motorcycle industry is the possibility to order “on-demand” new features for more power, range and other useful tools with the Cypher III+ operating system. This is an online Cypher Store where you can unlock additional items with your Zero app.
With the full-fairing (and the optional luggage cases) the SR/S presents itself more as a sport touring motorbike and not as a superbike. I experienced a relaxed riding position due to the lower position of the foot pegs and the higher placed grips on the handlebar than with the SR/F. Zero dealers have also the possibility to adjust these features for your ideal riding position.
Every time I get on the SR/S, I am delighted with the smooth behaviour and character of this motorbike. No clutch, no gears, no noise of course and it’s fast, very fast. It makes you feel safe and confident knowing you are one of the fastest vehicles on the road. It does not have an aggressive character (all depend on your riding style) but when you have experienced the instant torque, you discover a new “fun-on-the-road” feeling that I can recommend to each rider, but you have to experience it yourself.
In combination with the regenerating braking system, you control the motorbike with 1 hand. And the Cypher III+ control system integrates all systems on the SR/S for a safe riding experience. In case of an emergency or something unexpected, you can rely on the J.Juan brakes (which is a Spanish company owned by Brembo from Italy). With the lower positioned mirrors (and you get used to this very quickly), you have a complete overview of what is happening behind you.
Like all other light electric vehicles, range depends on your driving style, driving conditions and selected drive setting(s). The SR/S has 4 ride modi: Standard, Eco, Sport, Rain and a custom mode that you can compose yourself using the Zero app. You can even create multiple custom riding modes in the app and name each one differently, but you can only make one of those custom modes available on your Zero – all through the app.

The stylish SR/S is the state-of-the-art flagship of the Zero Motorcycles range. And yes, it comes with a price tag. Price of the Standard SR/S begins at € 22.560,- (Premium price starts from € 24.870,-). Some European governments still have some grants and/or tax reductions for Light Electric Vehicles (please check your local laws). Of course there are no expensive fuel costs and little maintenance costs. More and more cities have sustainable restrictions and ban combustion motors from the city. A new era is coming up …
