Jay Giraud, the man behind the dream, interview by Paul Roberts

THE PACK has been contacted by Paul Roberts, CEO of Buck City Biker, who recently sat down with Jay Giraud, the former CEO and co-founder of Damon Motors. In his upcoming story, Paul takes us beyond the headlines and product launches, into the personal journey of the man who had a new vision about motorcycling.

As Paul explains:

“This story isn’t about Damon. Obviously we discuss the Hypersport because that was a big part of Jay‘s life. But this is about him, his personal struggle, and what it takes to build a groundbreaking product from nothing. I wanted to give him an opportunity to tell his story, and what came out of it was this three part series. A look at an entrepreneur and an EV technician who built something amazing, created a dream everyone wanted to be part of, and how it broke him.”

Preview part 1: Finding the line – How Jay Giraud rewired the motorcycle world

Back in 2017, Jay Giraud had an idea — one that hit the electric motorcycle world like a torque spike to the gut. An idea bold enough to pull 3600 riders off the fence and make them throw down real money for a bike that, at the time, existed only on paper. An idea that didn’t just challenge the ‘electric vs. gas’ debate — it aimed to bury it.

Seven years later, after re-engineering what an electric powertrain could do, rewriting the playbook on safety, speed, and range, and raising the kind of funding that would make even legacy OEMs sweat, Jay Giraud may be gearing down for his final lap in the EV sector.

When we sat down with him, it wasn’t the usual tech-founder talk. No buzzwords, no polished pitch deck — just raw honesty about what it takes to build something from nothing. From the first sketches of the HyperSport to the gut punches that come with chasing perfection in an unforgiving industry, Jay’s story isn’t just about a machine. It’s about a man trying to push the limits — and what it costs when the throttle sticks wide open.

This is an excerpt from the first episode of a three-part deep dive into Jay Giraud’s journey, the HyperSport, and the EV revolution — not just a story about machines, but the man who risked everything to build one.

THE PACK reaction: the dream that stalled

For years, Damon Motorcycles sold a thrilling vision: the world’s most advanced electric superbike. The HyperSport and HyperFighter promised hi-tech safety systems, 200 mph top speeds, and a bold reimagining of what a motorcycle could be in the electric age. Thousands of riders believed in that vision, and backed it with their wallets.

But now, that dream looks to be running out of charge.

Despite collecting pre-order deposits, Damon Motorcycles finds itself teetering on the edge of collapse, tangled in financial distress, leadership turmoil, and an evaporating production plan. The much-hyped bikes that were meant to redefine the electric category may never see the light of day.

Why we publish this reaction?

We’re sharing this reaction not to gloat or to sensationalize, but because real riders are caught in the middle. Many people, enthusiasts, early adopters, believers in a cleaner motorcycling future, entrusted Damon with their money and their hopes. Many of them still check their inboxes for updates, still scroll through forums looking for news, still wonder if the dream they helped fund will ever become real.

They haven’t been forgotten.

At THE PACK, we believe accountability matters, especially in an industry built on trust between riders, builders, and innovators. Damon’s rise and fall isn’t just about one company’s failure; it’s about ensuring that the next wave of electric motorcycle makers learns from it and respects the community that makes their ambitions possible.
