Last year, Kawasaki announced the release of two new light electric vehicles, signaling a shift towards a more environmentally friendly future for the Japanese brand. The Z e-1 and Ninja e-1 models were unveiled as part of Kawasaki’s “Go with Green Power” strategy. These EV-bikes maintain the iconic design styles of their respective Z and Ninja family lines, while also featuring adult frame and engine specifications suitable for this class. Their addition to the “traditional” 125 cc class (for A1 driver’s licenses) provides a solution for urban mobility needs, catering to short city trips.
It’s worth noting that Kawasaki is only starting to enter the LEV market and exploring its potential. While other major brands may have ideas or designs for future electric motorbikes, Kawasaki is actually producing and selling them in the present, which could give them an advantage as they expand their electric lineup in the future. For now, you have two reliable urban modes of transportation that offer unique options for navigating the city.
In addition, Kawasaki is taking more steps towards carbon neutrality by introducing the first widely produced hybrid motorcycles in the world – the Ninja 7 Hybrid and the new Z7 Hybrid, the first-ever hybrid naked bike. These models will be available at Kawasaki dealers starting in spring 2024.
An overview:
Z e-1
With its modest engine, the Z e-1 offers a smooth and enjoyable ride in the city. Running at a low 5.0 kW, with a peak of 9.0 kW, it provides quiet operation and gentle acceleration. The bike’s wide handlebars make for easy maneuvering, while the e-boost feature adds an exciting new element controlled by your thumb. We also appreciated the regeneration function when driving around town – you can easily control it with one hand and even recharge the battery while on the go. Check out THE PACK’s test review here:
Ninja e-1
With its sleek and angular design, the 2024 Kawasaki Ninja e-1 all-electric motorcycle resembles its larger Ninja counterparts. However, it is comparable in performance to the 125cc class of motorcycles. The addition of (yes, again) an e-boost function provides a temporary boost when needed, and its dual lithium-ion batteries are detachable for both on-the-go and off-bike charging. The Ninja e-1’s effortless maneuverability, user-friendly controls, manageable power, and full-sized frame make it an ideal option for a first e-motorbike.
Ninja 7 Hybrid
The Ninja 7 Hybrid introduced us to a range of exciting new riding opportunities. It boasts the powerful acceleration of a 1,000cc-class supersport bike, thanks to its e-boost feature, and matches the fuel efficiency of a 250cc-class model. With sporty button-shift capabilities and three distinct drive modes, each with its own unique riding style, this bike is revolutionizing the way we experience riding. Packed with innovative features waiting to be discovered by riders, the Ninja 7 Hybrid marks the start of a new era in motorcycle riding.
Z7 Hybrid
Featuring a revolutionary power unit that combines a 451cm3 internal combustion engine and a compact traction motor, this Z7 Hybrid motorcycle is the first of its kind in the world. Riders can expect to enjoy a range of new experiences, including the fast acceleration of a 1,000cc-class supersport model from a still position (with e-boost), fuel efficiency comparable to that of a traditional 250cc-class motorbike, and the option for button-controlled sport riding. Building on the success of Kawasaki’s Ninja 7 Hybrid, the Z7 Hybrid offers three distinct drive modes for riders to choose from, each with its own unique riding style and an array of innovative features for an unparalleled riding experience.
