B2B News | Source: Jornal de Negocios | LinkedIn Famel | The iconic motorcycle company Famel, which was relaunched by Joel Sousa, will establish the Advanced Development and Prototyping Center in Guimarães, marking the start of a new chapter for the renowned Portuguese motorcycle company.

As Famel enters this new phase, it marks a critical moment in the brand’s history. While we remain committed to honoring its legacy, our focus is on the future through innovation and sustainability,” explained Joel Sousa, who has spearheaded the brand’s revival. Sousa also emphasized that Guimarães provides the ideal environment for growth and innovation.

Famel (on LinkedIn): “The newly built Advanced Development and Prototyping Center in Guimarães signifies the start of an exhilarating chapter in FAMEL’s resurgence. This area, currently undergoing renovations to suit our requirements, will become the central hub where history, sustainability, and innovation converge. While there is still much to be done, each progressive move brings us closer to realizing our goal of reintroducing FAMEL to the roads of Portugal and beyond, with an eco-friendly and sustainable aspect.”

The Guimarães installation comes on the heels of Famel’s recent round of financing, aimed at rejuvenating the iconic brand and launching a new electric model reminiscent of the legendary XF-17. The company plans to start delivering the new model in spring this year and received a boost of €2.45 million in mid-September 2024. The “push” is made possible by an investment that has already been secured through the Novus Fund, a collaboration between Magnify Capital Partners and Banco Português de Fomento (which owns 63%), as well as private investors.

Famel returns with two new models (Café Racer and Clássica) that pay homage to the original XF-17. These models have been updated to meet the current demand for eco-friendly transportation options, according to CEO and ‘re-founder’ Joel Sousa.

Joel added that the motorcycles were specifically produced for Anadia, a region known for its large industrial capacity and reputation as Europe’s leading bicycle producer. He also mentioned Famel’s partnership with a company boasting 25 years of experience. Along with being electric, Joel emphasized their commitment to using primarily European components, with at least half being made in Portugal. He also highlighted the personalization and connectivity features, utilizing artificial intelligence technology.
